The Edmonton Branch of UNAC was formed in 1949. It is part of a nation-wide group of voluntary, non-partisan United Nations organizations concerned with global affairs. It is comprised of interested Canadians in the greater-Edmonton area who seek solutions to world problems through the effective use of the UN, its specialized agencies, and other multilateral institutions.
This branch is committed to promoting awareness of critical issues such as the environment, human rights, disarmament, and development. We strive to reach various sectors of our community such as students, teachers, community organizations, businesses, and individuals wanting to explore the UN and its world.
Membership in our organization is open to anyone interested. As declared in UNAC´s official brochure, there is no set membership fee. However, because UNAC relies on memership donations to continue its important work, we encourage members to give as generously as they can.
We want all interested Canadians to become members, regardless of financial situation. We suggest a minimum donation of $25 for new members and $15 for students. Those who can afford more, please help by giving more. If you cannot afford to donate the full amount, please give what you can. Tax receipts will be issued for all donations of $15 and up. UNAC membership automatically entitles members to the benefits of their local branch. In Edmonton, we will keep you updated and informed as to what we do and aim to do and how you may be involved if you choose to be.
Some of the benefits of membership include:
• Each year members have access to a copy of UNAC´s Annual Report, giving a full overview of activities and programmes. • Members are invited to participate (and vote) as part of Edmonton´s branch. • Members with email are eligible to participate in a “UNAC-Discuss” national listserve. • Members are invited to attend and participate in Annual General Meetings at both the national and local levels. • Members are encouraged to become active volunteers within UNAC. • Membership donations of $15 and up are receiptable for tax purposes.
The Edmonton branch, with its dedicated membership (the largest in Alberta) invites anyone interested to join in promoting the work of the UN in Alberta´s capital city. We look forward to hearing from you!
